Stargazer Island Book 2: The Frozen Flame
Come to Stargazer Island, where the weird, wonderful, and magical meet.
A powerful psychic medium who loves to learn and a Roma police officer who has dreams and visions. An evil that can freeze even the warmest heart.
Celia Lawrence doesn’t want to admit it, but she’s been captivated by Rowan Ellis since they first met. It’s difficult keeping things light and friendly. Especially since Rowan is determined to teach this bubbly, blonde ball of energy with a brain that won’t quit a few truths. And a whole new way of thinking about relationships. Luckily, Celia loves chemistry because what’s growing between the two of them is explosive.
But someone –something – is determined to chill the heat growing between them. Plagued with disturbing dreams of ice and death, Rowan does not know what’s behind the danger. He only knows that he will risk everything to save Celia from it.
When the danger comes from within, however, can Celia herself learn what she needs in time to save herself, and everyone she loves?
While this is book 2 of the Stargazer Island Series, each book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.
It was late when Rowan walked Celia up to her apartment over the pharmacy. They turned to each other when they reached her door. Celia’s face was slightly flushed, but her gray eyes were clear and sparkling in the moonlight. Slightly tipsy, but not drunk. Rowan was glad for that.
“Did I meet your challenge, dragă?”
He brushed back a stray lock of her blonde hair, caressing her cheek with the back of his hand.
“You did,” Celia confirmed, leaning on the door as she studied him in the dim light. “The whole day was… surprising. In the best way.”
“I’m glad to hear it.” Rowan hesitated. “Does that mean you might consider a third date with me?”
Eyes still on him, Celia decided to follow Alice McCarthy’s advice and listen to her instincts for once. She pushed away from the door and grabbed Rowan’s shoulders to steady herself as she went up on tiptoe. She brushed her lips across his softly.
“Yes.”
Rowan’s arm banded her waist, keeping her against him. He cradled her face with his free hand, tipping it up slightly.
“My turn,” he murmured, just before his lips met hers again.
Still gentle, Rowan’s kiss was much more thorough than Celia’s. She was perfectly happy with that as he coaxed her lips to part. She tasted the apple of his earlier drink along with his own spicy cinnamon flavor. Celia hummed in pleasure as her eyes drifted shut.
Wary of rushing his fences, Rowan eased back. Celia opened her door, glancing over her shoulder once before she disappeared behind it. He waited until he heard the lock engage. Once it had, he walked to his own home.
When he let himself inside, his brother and sister called out greetings. They had taken him up on his earlier invitation to stay with him, at least until the rest of the familia arrived. It was the first time in a few years that he did not come home to an empty house. He realized he liked it.
“Wasn’t sure you were going to be home tonight, panam,” Kem said, tossing him a beer.
“Don’t want to rush things with this one,” he responded, taking a sip as he settled beside his sister on the couch. “She isn’t one-night stand material.”
“Glad you can see that,” Miri said, poking him in the side. “Means you’re maturing. Unlike the rest of our brothers.”
“Just haven’t found a woman who’d make me want to settle down,” Kem defended himself. “Women like that are hard to come by.”
“Rowan and Liam seemed to not have any issues there,” Miri pointed out. “And they live on an island with a finite population.”
“Different situation with Liam,” Rowan said. “He and Sonya have shared a soul bond since they met. He was five and she was three at the time. Despite fifteen years apart, that bond remained strong.”
“And you? Don’t tell me you just met Celia and that was it. You guard your soul too much to easily accept such a bond,” Kem argued. “Just like Dad and the rest of us.”
“Didn’t say I wasn’t like you. CC came to the island in late May. Things got narky, and Sonya was caught up in the middle of it. Celia stuck by her, and the island. Helped our investigation, and braved hell to fight beside her friend for the final battle. And after all that, she still decided to move here.”
“Narky?” Kem leaned forward. “And you don’t use that phrase ‘braved hell’ lightly. Best tell us what happened, panam.”
Rowan told his siblings everything that had gone on over the summer. When he fell silent, his brother fell back in his chair with a huff.
“Hell is right. The world owes you its thanks.”
“Don’t need thanks. I swore to protect the island when I decided to stay on Stargazer. I’ve never regretted that decision.”
“Your woman’s got guts to stick like that too. Facing that sort of evil isn’t an easy thing.”
“She’s faced things that would terrify most Roma,” Rowan told them. “Celia’s a mule-vi.”
Miri’s eyes widened. “Her childhood must have been terrifying. I remember when KakArgus’s son began seeing spirits. He nearly lost his sanity before he learned to control his abilities. Celia is a strong one, no doubt. She’ll make you a good wife, Rowan.”
He laughed. “You’re jumping too far ahead, pena. I’ve only just gotten her to agree to a third date. I got the sense that something makes her shy away from commitments.”
“Commitments in general, or a commitment to you?” Miri asked shrewdly.
“I would say in general, but that might just be my ego talking. With luck, I’ll find out which soon.”
“We’ll wish you all the luck in the world, panam,” Kem said, standing to stretch. “I’m for bed.”
Rowan said goodnight to his siblings. He fell asleep quickly once he went to bed. As his sleep deepened, he began to dream.
Celia stood in the center of town. Darkness swirled around her. Her eyes, icy blue rather than soft gray, fired with rage. A stone around her neck glowed an angry red. As Celia raised her hands, icicles shot at those surrounding her. One struck Rowan, driving him to his knees as the warmth, the life, drained from his body.
Sonya's best friend since college, newly minted doctor of Chemistry Celia arrives on Stargazer to help her bestie move into her grandmother's house. A strong psychic medium, Celia would not be surprised to find the centuries old Victorian filled with spirits of the past. Danger and demons is a whole other story. But CC's got no problem stepping up to help her friend kick evil's ass.
Comfortable with his Romani legacy, Rowan has been surrounded by magic his whole life. Like the brother of his heart, Liam, Rowan vowed to protect Stargazer and its people. Now that evil is ramping up, he'll stand with a group of friends, both new and old, to defeat it.
Sonya is a twenty-six year old witch with a powerful family legacy and degrees in history and language. She has been through a lot since her father's murder, but finally, she is back on Stargazer Island. The one place that always felt like home. Now, it's up to her to keep it safe from an ancient enemy.
After serving in the Navy for ten years, Liam, a powerful cougar shifter, has returned to Stargazer and taken a job on the local police force. As a child, he swore to protect the island and its people. None more so than Sonya.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Sam joined his best friend, Liam, on Stargazer Island after leaving the Navy. Raised by his Voodoo Priestess maman, Sam figured he had a handle on the concept of magic. But nothing could have prepared him for what he's about to learn. Both about Stargazer, and himself.
A former US Navy SEAL, Eric is used to action. He's seen and conquered demons his whole life. Evil is nothing new. When he decides to visit his old shipmates, Liam and Sam, however, he isn't expecting those demons, or that evil, to take any other form than human. Learning magic is real and that the world is inhabited by creatures and people with abilities beyond imagining could send even a hardened veteran reeling. Especially when he finds out he's one of them. Luckily, his friends have his six, just as he has theirs.
As a Native American Shaman and Dryad, Sage is a serious environmentalist, as well as a skilled healer. She's all about protecting the planet and its inhabitants, whatever the threat might be. Everything in her bookstore is salvaged and rebuilt, and she only works with publishing companies who use environmentally friendly practices and products. She's got no problem debating environmental issues with anyone. But evil creates a pollution all its own, and when her friends need help to stop it, Sage will do a whole lot more than just argue.
Occasionally, I'll be adding a short (very short) story about my characters to this website. These little tales might show either the character's past, or the present, but will give readers a bit of insight into their lives. All these stories will be free; my gift to you, dear reader. Enjoy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We here at the Stargazer Comet hope you and your families all had very happy and safe holidays, whatever you celebrated. Now that 2020 is in the rearview mirror, we hope you can use that 20/20 hindsight (pun fully intended) to see that despite all the chaos and horrible things that happened, some good quietly slipped in as well. Births, recoveries, weddings, and other achievements both big and small still occurred, even while we were all preoccupied with the bad.
And we also hope that 2021 is a much better year for the world as a whole and look forward to bringing you enough updates and announcements to keep the year exciting.
That said, our first announcement of the year is that The Frozen Flame, book 2 of Sionna Trenz’s “Stargazer Island Series” is set to be released on February 9th. For those who use Kindle, preorders will be available this month.
INTERVIEW WITH AN AUTHOR
One of our favorite parts of the Stargazer Comet is being able to feature new and independent authors for our readers as well as give subscribers access to some wonderful books. We are delighted to have had a chance to sit down with one such author, Lauren Rigby, recently. She very kindly took the time to tell us a bit about herself.
It’s lovely to meet you. Thank you for taking the time to talk to us today. Can you tell us, what genre do you write? Do you use a pen name?
Of course. I write dystopian romance books and yes, Lauren Rigby is my pen name. My real name is Lauren Kilinc.
Our readers enjoy getting to know the authors behind their favorite books. Would you like to share anything about your life?
Well, I grew up in the city of Salford in Manchester, England, with three siblings. In my own personal love story, I married my childhood sweetheart at seventeen. Now, we have three children together. I am a Tarot reader, and work from home around caring for my children. Also of note, we have two chickens, named Daisy and Maisy.
That does sound like it would be a lovely romance story with a happily ever after! Does your inspiration for your stories come from your life, or elsewhere?
My inspiration came from my children. I just started to write one night and poured out my first book. I get asked a lot if I base my characters on people I know. This isn’t intentional, but as they develop, they do tend to resemble people I’ve known or seen.
What is your favorite part of writing?
I’d have to say the anticipation. I have a story in my head, and once I start, I love the excitement of wanting to write and get the story onto the page. My fingers usually can’t type fast enough!
Can you tell us a bit about your books?
Of course. My first book, Sanctuary, was published on Amazon in October of 2020. The second, a part of this same series, is due out in January of 2021. Sanctuary is an emotional tale of life after war ravaged an already fragile Earth. It is full of drama, romance, and features a truly hate-worthy villain.
Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us today, Mrs. Kilinc! We definitely look forward to reading more of your work in the future.
You can follow Mrs. Rigby at: Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/laurenrigbyauthor/
Eons of war had destroyed the already fragile Earth. The people that remained flocked to the Sanctuary, created by Jerome. Housed in a mountain they sought safety from the raging war outside.
Selena, one of the second generation born at the Sanctuary, was doomed to a life of hardship. Orphaned at a young age, she had learned to fend for herself. Working her fingers to the bone in the Slums, she fought every day to survive.
Rowan was one of the Elite. One of Jerome’s inner circle. With his good looks and mysterious charisma, he was expected to keep order and protect the values and traditions of Jerome’s leadership.
Until their paths collide…literally.
Embarking on a dangerous love affair, with heartbreak and sorrow, can these two mismatched lovers find a way passed the obstacles keeping them apart?
Can they finally be free?
The Sanctuary a new emotional romance story. If you like drama, romance, and a truly hate-worthy villain then you will love the first book in this, The New Beginnings Series.

Annual 3 on 3 Stargazer Pond Hockey Tournament
For those teams who have signed up for this year’s annual hockey tournament, your practice dates and times have been added to the calendar beside the community bulletin board in the Town Hall. Please stick to these times as closely as possible so every island team has a chance to practice. If you have not already done so, team captains need to provide us with a final 5-man roster and any funds raised by sponsors. All funds this year benefit the Stargazer School District, so help support our children! Remember you are allowed one goalie and one alternate along with your three players.
The Stargazer Cup Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, January 23 – Sunday, January 24. Stargazers, come root for your favorite teams! This year’s Stargazer Cup will be presented to the winning team by our very own Betsy Llaren. You won’t want to miss it.

Please note that Stargazer Rock will be closed to everyone between January 6th and January 13th. This is the wyverns’ annual breeding season. While islanders have a good rapport with wyverns, this time of year males become much more aggressive as they fight over their females. They can and will attack anyone perceived as a threat. While most wyverns will leave after this week, we will alert you should any of the females need to remain on the island due to injury while they roost.
So if you like the cover of Witch's Return, you can click on the link on the link below to check out more drawings. A good friend of mine drew the cover for me. She's a great artist, and I look forward to working with her in the future. Thanks for everything, Samantha!
