This book contains discussion of childhood abandonment by parent, childhood illness (not of the MCs), and discovery of heinous crimes committed against children by the villain. It also deals with spirit possession, nightmares, and magical violence and murder. There is also an exorcism scene that blends Pagan and Christian traditions. This book contains scenes of adult bullying, manipulation and attempted blackmail, along with attempts to destroy a reputation out of vengeance. It contains scenes of graphic violence, paranormal violence, death, dark magic rituals, kidnapping, and PTSD. There is discussion of remembered child abuse, neglect, rape, coercion for a child to commit crimes, and drug use of an adult. It also contains memories of street fighting, gang violence, murder, and a moment of suicidal thoughts.

The paranormal villain in this book is a truly dark legend from Native American lore.
